The 2018 judging panel was as follows:

Lee Wilcox

CEO, On The Tools Ltd |

An enthusiast of all things tech and social media related - Lee Wilcox is the 33 year year old co-founder and CEO of On the Tools. In the space of three years ‘On the Tools’ has become the biggest Construction Community in the world with over 2 million followers across their social media channels. Lee also consults for brands in the construction industry on their social media strategy.

Andy Taylor

Commercial Director, On The Tools Ltd |

Andy has a wealth of senior level commercial experience within a wide range of industries. Most recently he created, developed and implemented a franchise opportunity within small sided football which grew from an idea into a seven figure global business with franchises across four continents.

An early investor in On The Tools, he joined the team full time in May 2016 and has been instrumental in the income growth of the business ever since. He has held a lifelong passion for conservation and is currently a non-exec Director of Dudley Zoo where he is an active member of the board of trustees.

Adam Barrie

Creative Director, On The Tools Ltd |

Adam started his career as an apprentice in the construction industry. Over the next 12 years he had a number of roles including; interior fit-outs and shop fitting; site supervisor; site manager and project manager before setting up his own business refurbishing offices. Also Co - Founder, Adam joined On The Tools full-time in 2015 as Creative Director where he oversees the production and creative teams. Adam’s ‘been there and done it’ experience is invaluable to the company.


Ollie Allen

Director and Designer, Allen Projects Ltd |

After studying Furniture Design, Ollie carved a career for himself by following his passion and turning this into a business. Over the past 10 years, this has included property development, product design and construction projects, now with a focus on producing outstanding bespoke furniture. 

Ollie was named Jewson's Best Young Tradesperson of the Year in 2017 and was also the 2017 Winner of the Carpenter of the Year category in the OnTheTools Awards! 

Along with reviewing tools and products for large trade magazines, Ollie is now working as an Artisan Maker on the BBC TV Series 'Money For Nothing' where he is one of the talented creators repurposing found objects and turning these into furniture and home wares for sale on the show. Ollie heads up a team of multidisciplinary designers and makers, who specialise in the production of furniture, hand built kitchens and solid Oak timber structures. Projects range from large scale site installs, through to small handcrafted pieces in our fully equipped workshop, now with digital manufacturing capabilities such as CNC machines and full range of woodworking tools.

Martin Ballard

Group Enviroment Manager, Willmott Dixon Holdings |

Martin Ballard is Group Environment Manager for Willmott Dixon, responsible for environmental protection, legal assurance and promotion of environmental improvements for risk mitigation, assisting the business with best practice to perform to company targets. He is responsible for the Group’s ISO14001:2015 Environmental management system. Martin has chaired the industry’s Water Task Group and the BIG Biodiversity Challenge awards selection panel.


Adam Callow

Founder and CEO, Expert Trades |

Adam Callow is the Founder CEO of Expert Trades. Expert Trades makes life easier and more fun for trades professionals, and since starting in 2013 has over 14,000 engaged trade members. With an industry background, as an area sales manager for a heavy side manufacturer, Adam saw a need to better use technology to connect the construction industry.

Now Expert Trades has partnered with the likes of Monument Tools, Baxi and Fernox to support the end user, move customers into brand advocates and drive sales through the merchant network.

“The thing I get excited about is how our industry is changing as a result of technology. It is making trades professionals more efficient and creating new opportunities throughout the whole supply chain. The best part of my job is getting a chance to work with companies that aren’t waiting for this to happen but being the change makers themselves.

Andrew Carpenter

CEO, Structural Timber Association (STA) |

In a career spanning over 40 years, Andrew Carpenter, CEO of the Structural Timber Association (STA), has played an active part in the construction industry, focusing on business development, best practice and the sector’s improvement agenda.

Andrew joined the UKTFA as CEO in January 2011 and oversaw the rebrand to the STA in 2013 and is now very much at the centre of the offsite construction agenda, whilst continuing to promote the capability of structural timber products and the capacity within the sector to help resolve the housing crisis.

Since 1999 he has been involved with the Government change agenda and is currently CEO of Constructing Excellence South West & Chair of BIM4Housing. 


Jen Hallam

Jen Hallam is a member of the leadership team at award winning communications agency Tangerine and specialises in the built environment. She has worked with brands including Jewson, Topcon, PPG, Dulux, British Gypsum and Interface, to develop and deliver strategic campaigns that build and protect their brands.

Sam Hiner

PR and Marketing Manager at Ridgemount PR |

Sam is a PR and Marketing Manager at Ridgemount PR based in South West London with over five years’ experience working in construction and architecture. He's a keen strategist and embraces the change brought about by new digital technologies and the rapid growth of social media. 

"Construction can, at times, have a very traditional view when it comes to marketing and PR, which is fine - but the world and customers move on! One of the biggest challenges I currently face is bridging that gap between the digital and the traditional worlds - and bringing my clients along with me. It's important to show businesses the value of new technologies and how they can benefit the way in which they work and market their products. It's all about communicating this in a way that they understand. It's genuinely an exciting time to be in construction and the amount of disruptors about at the moment keeps us all on our toes!"



Sam Johnson

Marketing Manager, Jewson |

Sam Johnson is a Marketing Manager at Jewson looking after the Juice by Jewson loyalty programme. Sam has over 9 years’ experience within the construction industry, 5 years of that working as a Marketing Manager for a Health Safety & Environmental consultancy in Leeds then moving to work on Travis Perkins own brands Bullet Fixings, Punk Power Tool Accessories and Holdon Hand Tools. Following this Sam worked on Scruffs Workwear before moving to Jewson where he has been for just over a year.

James Lawrence

Founder, Plumberparts |

James Lawrence founded Plumberparts in 2007 when he decided to help people out in the world of plumbing. With an A-level in Media Studies and a completed HVAC apprenticeship, James started to create informative videos about plumbing and publishing them on YouTube. Now each week James releases new videos from installations through to product reviews and plumbing disasters. Many of these videos are shown in colleges across the country where James has become an inspiration for many aspiring plumbers.

Plumberparts currently has over 88,000 subscribers on YouTube and thousands of followers on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat. Plumberparts is growing rapidly within the plumbing industry, working with major manufacturers and suppliers such as Graham Plumbers’ Merchant, Nest, Adey and Ideal Standard to help educate and promote in the world of plumbing & heating.


Tony Munro

Showroom Director, Jewson |

Tony Munro is Showroom Director at Jewson, having taken up the position in January 2017. He is responsible for driving growth through 53 Jewson kitchen and bathroom showrooms in the UK, as well as setting the strategic direction and implementing new ideas to add value for Jewson’s customers. With over 13 years of experience within the construction industry working for both distributors and manufacturers in marketing, sales and operational roles, Tony has vast insight into what makes tradespeople tick.

Dave Seal

Managing Director, Advent Tools Ltd |

Dave Seal is Managing Director of Advent Tools Ltd. Advent Tools are one of the UK’s leading suppliers of measuring products and the UK Exclusive distributor for Komelon. Founded in 2001, Advent Tools now supplies over 8,000 customers throughout the UK and Ireland.

Prior to taking over at Advent Tools Ltd, Dave worked in various sales and marketing roles at Unilever PLC. He left his role as Unilever Business Group Director in 2006 to take over Advent Tools Ltd from his late Father.


Tibby Singh

BBC's Carpenter of the Year and a multi-award winning carpentry and joinery expert |

Tibby Singh is the winner of BBC's Carpenter of the Year and a multi-award winning carpentry and joinery expert. Tibby has over 13 years experience under his tool belt and since winning the Television competition he is well recognized in the industry and has a variety of roles. He is involved in product testing, development and reviews, as well as giving live and video demonstrations. Tibby is a brand ambassador and endorses products, carpentry and joinery competitions judge, guest speaker and is heavily involved with media work such as TV, radio and magazines"

Jaggy Singh


Jaggy is heavily involved with media work within the construction industry, both electronic and print media. Along with his brother 'Tibby Singh', he has tested, wrote the reviews for and photographed over a hundred different products. Their reviews are for the biggest publications in the trade reaching audiences of over 100,000 readers on a monthly basis.

He has also worked closely with different tool manufacturers to test tools at the development stage prior to them being launched on the market. Following on from this he is involved with product launches and promotions through the production of video demonstrations and competitions.

Jaggy's other roles include attending a range of events supporting Tibby with Live Talks and Demonstrations. In addition to this, he often judges various competitions across the country.
